Basically, I want to play/experiment/look like a Victorian Throw Back. And not pay too much. What do people recommend?

Medium Format will only take you as far back as the 60s...so you can look like Andy Warhol if you like?

You want Victorian, you'll have to go Large Format!

for the record the charity shop had loads of old stuff, a voightlander rangefinder, some old Kodak Boy Scouts, a few film SLR's etc.
I can walk down tomorrow see whats left see if there is anything particularly vintagy

Unless you can find something more solid at a charity shop/boot sale/ebay, then try a Holga.

Mamiya 220 - same family as the 330, but cheaper.

Still loads of fun...

OP would probably be better off posting in Film & Conventional rather than here, but...

Twin Lens Reflex

Real cheap: a Lubitel 166 (Russian) or a Seagull 4B (Chinese) can be had for under £20 on a well known auction site if you are lucky.

Mamiya C220s do seem to go for not a lot of money - around £100 - and will give you much better results. They're quite a bit larger and heavier to handle.

Yashica 124G is a nice alternative around the same price point (though they have been getting more expensive over the last couple of years). I have one.

Single Lens Reflex

I managed to buy a tidy Mamiya M645J with an 80mm lens and waist level finder for about £75 quite recently. You can usually pick them up for somewhere between £100 and £150.

Folding Cameras

There are a lot of cheap folders, like the Agfa Isolette or the Zeiss Ikon Nettar, which can be had for under £30. Watch out for light leaks in the bellows.

But it is equipment, anyway, I spend too long at work being pedantic lol...

Cheers for the reply, I will have a look around for some of those I think. Will swing by my local camera shop and have a look at what they have.

I wasn't having a pop - just thinking of where you were going to get the most useful response. ;)

have fun.

...and check for slow shutters on the longer settings, especially as most likely haven't been used in quite a while.
