Yes
Looking for the above as cheap as possible! or maybe someone can point me in the direction of an alternative.

I would be using it for mainly live concerts with bad lighting and for music press/editorial shoots.

Need to get it sorted asap aswell.

Cheers.

FITP (look in Advertisers) sells no-Nikon flash, although I feel the SB 900 is a great flash and is worth the money.

Most live concerts won't let you use flash, you'll get kicked out.

nissin flashes are meant to be ok, and some people say the jessops are ok. Absolute cheapest is the one that flash in the pan sells, 472 or something that still has ttl.

Splash out the extra for an sb600 though, you can use the built in flash as a CLS commander and it works really well, so fluid and easy to use.

Sorry this is for the more low key local stuff. Just come back from a gig at a local venue and although the lighting was dog poor trying to bump the iso etc didnt help so was in need of a flash.

Im tempted to get an sb 600 as they seem cheaper then other sb's. Saying that i got some great results using a jessops on my canon!

I have the FITP youngnou 460ii flashes which are manual... they didnt want to work with the camera at all and im not sure on having the ttl version instead of a more mainstream brand.

in what way didn't they want to work with your D300s?

I have no idea why they wouldnt work! They seemed to work on my canon when i put them on but i tried them on the nikon last night and no matter what setting i adjusted it wouldnt fire. Even put new batteries in.

They work fine when you hit pilot etc and off camera. Just weird.

I've got two YN460-II flashes and have no problem using them with my D300s (or D200).

Personally I'd forget the SB-600. Sure, you say it's low-end local stuff you're shooting, but if you're doing low light concerts, the 200mm zoom head on the SB-900 is going to make a huge difference if you need to shoot at a distance (as well as all the other features it offers that you may require in the future).

I started with an SB-600, and have since picked up three SB-900s. The SB-600 rarely even comes out of the bag any more (and even the YN460-II flashes get more use if I need to go the radio trigger router because they're quicker and less hassle to setup and tweak the power).

Sounds as if you've got them on either S1 or S2 setting...

nah i did think that when it didnt fire the first couple of times but it was on manual about 1/16th (3 lights up i think)

Im going to have a play with them today and see whats going on. I just wondered if there was in camera settings that might need changing around as obviously there are alot more options on a d300s then a canon 1000d!!!!
