Is there a cheap tripod for around £40 worth buying? I doubt I will use it a great deal at the moment as most of my photography is done traveling and I will not be taking a full size tripod with me only taking a Gorillapod in my pack. I use a 550D and my largest lens for the foreseeable future is a 75-300mm kit lens.

I've got the 284 tripod with the small ball head. Probably the best cheap tripod you can buy.

Sounds like I might be better of waiting until funds allow for something better then.

Yes, why buying cheap one? I bought 2 cheap tripods in the past, it was a bit mistake, then i spend a lot of money or say fortune and got 4 Gitzo tripods different models, i am happy forever and i will not spend again at all until i lose them or damage them, so spend for lifetime even so expensive, and all of the are lightweight because of CF, but only the bigger series [3 and 5] can handle bigger loads on them and very sturdy enough, i can use my series 5 in a hurricane if needed.

I have a really cheap hama that i bought on amazon - the reason i dont mind it being so cheap, i dont mind it getting wet when i go shin deep in water, i dont mind it getting broken.

That doesnt mean to say its the only tripod i have/will buy and is not a substitute for a good quality sturdy and well built tripod at 10x the price
