Read through a few threads on these but they seemed to be older so wanted to check on current opinion.

Planning on getting a 77mm CPL and there are a few I have found but would like to know which are the considered the best. The ones I have seen are Hoya HD, Hoya Pro-1, B+W, B+W Kasemann amd Marumi DHG. Which would you go for to keep the best IQ, and are there any others I should think about?

The old threads are still relevant- I don't think anything has changed.

There's not much between any of these really. Personally I like the Hoya HD as it loses the least light and it has more robust coating than the Pro-1. I think the Super DHG is better than the DHG also. Don't think you'll go far wrong- all are better than a £6 ebay job though plenty swear by them too
 
I use the Hoya HD. It is an expensive but quality filter.
Expect to pay decent money, the cheap ones really aren't worth it.

A tip. Run an HB pencil around the thread. This helps if you inadvertently over tighten it onto the lens.
 
Helliopan, can't say wether it's better or worse than any of the others, it's in the same price range and is availlable in a thin mount version which helps in avoiding vignetting should you wish to use it on a wide angle lens
 
Thanks Peter, that is something to consider as it will be on a 17-40 a lot of the time.

Its an in depth review of 24 CPL's. Also if you buy this months Advanced Photography mag they have a test on 12 different ones. For the record the Marumi Super DHG comes joint first in the Lenstip tests and 1st in the mag article. Ive just ordered it off Amazon for £73.69 with free del which is around £12 less than the other places i looked.:)

Thanks Phil, much appreciated. Must admit I was thinking along the lines of the Marumi super DHG before you posted this, though the one I want on Amazon looks to be around the £100. Still, I have just been asked what I would like for a birthday present :)

No bother, i never thought to mention mine is the 67mm one. The main reason i went with it was due to its water stain resistance. Some of the others in the tests were left with water stains and as i like to shoot at the beach i thought it was the safe option. I was in 2 minds as to wether or not to go for the DHG version which is 50% cheaper but it says in Advanced Photographer that they found that that one suffered from water marks also. I believe the Super version has a better coating. The DHG version did come 4th in that lenstip test that said so if the water issue doesnt bother you then that one might be worth considering....

I thought yours might be the 67, mine will be 77. And as I live less than 100 metres from the sea the water resistance is well worth knowing about :)
