About 10 years ago I took a City & Guilds course in the evenings. I took 5 modules over a period of between 2 and 3 years, and gained 5 distinctions. While I enjoyed the couse immensely, I just wondered if the qualification is worth anything if I wanted a job in photography. :)

At the end of the day I have various qualifications.... City and Guilds, Btec, degree and no one has even asked me in any job what I got..... You would normally start as an assistant anyway.

The way my Boss chooses assistants, retouchers is from the way they set their opening letter out when sending their C.V and also how friendly they are when meeting them. Also good portfolio and most of all enthusiasm for learning. If someone is enthusiastic and willing/wanting to learn then that is more than half the battle.

No one would take you on because you have distinctions left right and centre but a crap personality! But everything helps and I am sure you have learnt a lot in the course.

Yeah but the friendliness bit and personality applies to most jobs.

The reason I`m asking, is that the C & G course is not mentioned hardly at all and just wondered if it`s something that counts for anything.

I`m not going for a photography job, as I`m too old anyway but for youger people say in their late teens and wany to go to college and study.

I suppose what I`m really asking is that if both people were of the same age with the same personality and took equally good photos, which would qualification would count for more?
