Not special but I like them ! I like any bird that has colour in the plumage not always seen, reminds me how important light is to photography ...

I agree Kevin, often overlooked like starlings and spuggies, its only when you take the time to observe them in detail that you see the colours and intricacies of their plumage

Thanks Brian, to be honest I expected to get flamed for this, especially after seeing some toys getting thrown in this forum recently but I really am not a bird snob, sure I love birds of prey but love a good pigeon or gull as much as a lesser spotted whatever !

I couldn't agree more! These are always overlooked in favour of the rare and extreme, but like you I am a fan of the 'City Rat'. I think they have a quite a bit of character to boot too. (y)

Cheers

Agree with all of you. it's all about the colour and seeing things differently, not as an average everyday person. that's what photography is all about .

Totally agree, I like pigeons too - they are beautiful birds. Great shot!

there is a stigma attached to feral pigeons, but they do have beautiful colours, and you have captured them superbly, just a suggestion, if you know someone with racing pigeons, they are even more colourful.

Wow, thanks for all the positive responses, it is really good to know there are other like minded souls out there.

If we think of pigeon post and "worlds best sat nav" then the pigeon has some amazing attributes.

Ghostdancer - my brother in law breeds and races pigeons, have just named a newborn after my daughter. I will have to take camera next visit.

Lovely shot Kevin (y) agree with your view on this and the lighting, dof etc are spot on. As for toy`s being thrown we are allowed to do that :D I have a collection of them now but nobody has thrown me a cabbage patch doll :(

you won't regret it Kevin,my dad used to keep them a long time ago, when I was a lad, and I remember how beautiful they were, I'm sure your brother in law will be able to tell you all the names for the colours of them,it's been such a long time for me I can't remember any of them now.
