I tried to find some dedicated information towards close up filters through a search but couldn't find what I was looking for. I wanted to see if anyone could shed some light on these filters, i've recently noticed how useful they can be and how cost effective they can potentially be too.
I've thought about getting Hoya Close Up Filters +1, +2, +4 recently because I want a macro lens where I can take very tight detail shots at distance, but then also use it a bit like a long portrait lens.
The thing that's puzzling me with the filters though is how much magnification is each filter providing? i.e. if i'm shooting on a 85mm for example, +1 how much magnification does it add? 10%, 15% 20%...? ... and the same for +2 and +4...
Can anyone help out here? I think if I were to buy the 105mm I would use it a lot (because the 60mm 2.8 is just way too wide), but could I get away with using say, the 85mm with these close up filters? I'm just weighing up the pros and cons! I have read that if you stack these filters, quality degrades but having seen the effect of a +4 I doubt i'd need to stack!
