I'm looking to buy a Cokin filter system. I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L. Was just wondering would anyone recommend a Cokin filter system please? Thank's very much for any help inadvance...

Cokin are a bit cheap and nasty. If you can afford to go for something fancier I'd recommend it. You've not said what kind of filters you actually want

I have Cokin. The holder may look a little cheap and nasty but I've found that it works and mine hasn't broken yet.

I bought the normal holder and then the slim line one so I suppose it's worth thinking about how many slots you need and which holder you need.

i've got the cokin grad kit, and yes there is colour cast on the nd8 with exposures over say 1 second, everything goes a little purple, however it's nothing that can't be fixed in pp

lee ones are much better with no colour cast, but then again they are 3 times the price, so you get what you pay for!

This was taken with my cokin nd grad set, a very raw (before i cleaned my sensor!) file but shows the original cast problem and the adjusted results - click for full size

hope this helps

Thank's very much for the replies lads. I'm in Perth,Australia and the light is about 4 stops more than what it is in europe.(I was told this by a local photographer in a shop yesterday). What i need is ND grad filters to stop the shutter speed down.So i have my tripod with me and want to buy a filter system to make some use of the tripod before i go home next Saturday...

ND filters are used to lower shutter speed. The add x stops to the whole image.

ND Grads are used to hold the sky (or other brighter part of the image) back so you don't get blown highlights. They will add x stops only to the area that the the darker part of the filter is positioned over.

If it's just ND filters you're after, probably best to buy the screw on ones (B+W, Hoya etc...) rather than the Cokin system, unless you want ND grads as well.

Just got an email from a pro landscape photographer i know and he recommended using Lee filters.Look's like i'll be going that way now...:)

+1 on the Lee Filters (Hope you got a good credit card though!)

I've given it a fair lash here in Oz,so one more go won't kill me.But i haven't bought any camera equiptment here, way too expensive.I asked about a price for a 15mm f/2.8 fisheye the other day here in Perth and the shop was a couple of hundred euros dearer than the same lens from Kerso...

The filters i need as the light is way too bright here compared to europe.....:|

I am not liking this. I'm emigrating to Adelaide in a few months.... I guess One-stopdigital deliver there...

When you emigrate to ADELAIDE Mark,go into Ted Camera Shop in`Adelaide city. There is a guy i dealt with in there (grey haired with a moustache, can't remember his name) and he was very good to me the couple of time i went in.He even threw me a few freebies....
