Collapsible backgrounds, anyone using them ?

I just wondered if anyone uses collapsible backgrounds, and if so are they any good ? i'm looking at these type HERE i'm not sure if the train is long enough on these particular ones though, but that's the type of thing i'm on about, any feedback on how you get on with them much appreciated :thumbs:

I use Lastolite ones (without the train) and find them really good, not much space in the car and easy to carry around town.
 
I have a couple of the lastolite ones, With train and without. They are great quality and very portable but i never use them. In fact i forgot i had them until i read this thread.

Definitely stick with lastolite instead of the cheaper brands
 
Will follow this thread with interest. I have been asked by one of the mums at karate if I would do some pics of her 2 kids and a few others are interested in having theirs done too, so might have to look at investing in something like this.

The trains, the lastolite ones seem to be 5', the ones TG links to 7' unless I am reading something wrong, plus they are self supporting, with only a £20 or so price difference, will they really be that much poorer? :shrug: Are there self supporting lastolite ones too that I just havent found?
 
The TG one is more or less the same design as the lastolite Yv. The lastolite will prop against a wall too but they would both work better hung because they will be parallell to the focal plane, that's why lastolite has a stand, so you can do that anywhere.
 
Yes they are good.. My advice - learn how to uncollapse them and put them away before you visit a clinet

Ouch bought back some nice memories.....when I first got mine it lived open on the back seat of the car as I couldn't put it away.

I bought the exact same model you are looking at in November and can honestly say I think it's great.

Delivery was very fast. having double sided is very handy but you have to remember that you have 8' of train each side (2 trains)

Packs up really small and can be leaned against a wall or hung from a hook.

Not much else to say - I thought it was good value for @ £120.

Something that has occured to me over the course of the last few hours - how clean do they stay and are they easy to get marks off them? This applies to these and lastolite ones for anyone that has them?

Also, even if using a stand, how stable are they with a 2 year old bouncing around on the train? :nuts:

I have used mine for shooting a 12 year old jumping around and a very hyperactive 2.5 year old. Have also done portraits of dogs.

Dog hairs come off with sticky tape. If I was shooting kids (thats an idea:suspect:) I would make sure the kids were clean.

Thanks for the info Ian, what sort of material are they made from and is it fairly crease proof ? also do you mean 2 literal separate trains ? if you could possibly post any pics of yours that would be great, many thanks :thumbs:

Just the job, many thanks ian :thumbs:, just one more question what are the measurements of the background as it looks slightly shorter than the lastolite one's although that may just be how it looks in the photo :)
 
Terry,

The background is a good 7' by 7' with 8' train each side. You lose height by leaning against a wall. I intend to hand mine off a hook but haven't got round to fixing the hook yet. I will hang it 12" off the ground giving me 8' of height and about 6'6" of train.
