Compact camera with viewfinder ?

Hi all
Using a Fuji t200 compact as pocket take anywhere camera.
but using the lcd screen is of course hopless, looked online
and I cant find a compact with even an evf viewfinder
so is it now the fact that manufactures dont produce these anymore
my budget is around £100 so I guess that's the reason

Add a '0' to the £100 and you could get a Sony RX100 II with detachable EVF and tilt LCD screen and which delivers very high quality photos. It's truly a pocketable take anywhere compact.
 
I don't think any of the manufacturers have offered an affordable, pocket size, compact with a viewfinder for quite a few years now. Canon's Power Shot AXXX series were one of the last, and you can still find these on the used market, but they're ageing now. They run on 4 x AA batteries, which makes them a bit bulky/heavy for a pocket camera, and the viewfinders are a bit of an afterthought, but they do have one and it's just about useable.

I still use my A640 and enjoy it. Build quality is solid, and it produces excellent photographs.
 
Make that £200 and a secondhand Fuji X10 is in your reach.
 
I sometimes use a LCD viewfinder attachment with my compact (for video, but also stills in bright light). There's a stick-on metal frame that goes around the rear screen, then a plastic hood/loupe with magnifing eyepiece goes in the back held by magnets. Not pretty, but very effective. This should work with most compacts, if you can find the attachment with the right frame size for the screen.
 
For £100, you can have my old Nikon Coolpix 3100! (Only joking, it's not worth anything near that much.) Keep an eye on 2nd hand shelves and in charity shops and you might find something suitable within budget.

Here's a link to what I use, LCD viewfinder. As I said, not pretty but it does turn your rear screen into a very effective EVF. Put a cheap pistol grip on the tripod mount and it's very comfortable to use. I took this from some of the run-and-gun reviews for the Sony HX9V where a lot of video shooters are using small compacts for everyday use (example). Several people I've shown my set-up to have copied it once they've had hands-on.

had a look at that lcd attachment and seems fine, but the downside is the bulk of the thing
I did look at the used Fuji x10 and thought of buying a top quality compact, with better picture quality
But would I not get lazy and leave my d7000 at home more often..lol

probably, but if your like me and need a camera everywhere you go it's a lot more practical and takes very good quality images.
My D7K only comes out on dedicated shoots now..
 
I guess the quality of the x10,is prob going to make it the obvious choice
now just to read more info!
esp regarding the orb issues!!

Many, especially if buying s/h will have already had this dealt with by Fuji, but simply check with owner and ask for the Fuji document that says the sensor has been replaced and no worries about orbs. ;) Another x10 owner here btw and can highly recommend!

watching a couple of x10,s on ebay, i did ask the owner if the orb issue had been sorted by fuji
"well I have noticed nothing in my pics " was the response !! I moved on
just wondered if there is a time limit on repairs on an older model
 
The seller should know. Mine was a refurb with a new sensor. You could ask for the serial number then phone Fuji?

We currently use a Canon Powershot A1000is for carry-everywhere.
It has a tiny but useable OVF
Slightly earlier and later models exist too, similar design.
Bought ours from eBay's Canon-outlet, I don't know if they still do older models brand new...

Not all had the orb issue, I had one that didn't and as the issue wasn't there I never bothered sending it back to get a replacement sensor.

If you can gather extra funds its worth keeping an eye on s/h X20's as the price seems to be dropping lately and they have a much better OVF on them as well as the better x trans sensor.
 
my previous compact was a canon and did look for something that ticked the boxes
but nothing good enough at the time
no great rush I guess, more time to save a bit more cash
and I did notice quite a few x20,s on ebay
may well be tempted if prices do drop a good amount
