If I put a CF card from my old camera with 3,500 actuations on it and place it in a new camera, will the new camera shutter count start at 3,501 etc, if so, how can I overcome this
Thanks
Dave

I may be wrong but i believe that's just the image number (i.e. DSC_1234).

I think when you put the card in the other camera then it will continue to name files sequentially (I.e. As you say, 3501...) but the shutter actuations are individual to each camera.

Best way to find actual shutter actuations is to use software like Opanda, Preview or Photoshop.

Unless I am misunderstanding your Q, I believe most cameras have a reset for pic numbering. (Often when delete is activated). Look through your menus

This is different from the Camera Actuations (Which can only be reset by changing the shutter mechanism)

To reset the numbering system on that card you can just format it in camera (although I'm not sure if that wholly gets rid of the info) or just erase the card via a computer

Depends on the camera, my 400D is set for continous numbering and even using different cards the file number increases in sequence, think I'm up to about 19,500 now

Many thanks to all, I also have mine set to continuous numbering, I format my CF card after every shoot but obviously the next image taken continues with the previous numbering sequence.
??? how can you find individual camera shutter actuation in Photoshop or other software please.
Thanks
Dave

In photoshop go:

FILE > FILE INFO > ADVANCED > HTTP//NS.ADOBE.... > AUX IMAGE NUMBER

This works for raw files, don't know about JPEGS. Not working with my JPEGs today.... hmmmm!!

In Apple Preview go:

TOOLS > INSPECTOR

Or download Opanda (PC only) and that'll tell you :)

Cheers, Pat, will give that a go in PS.
There is a similar post going on camera actuations and thanks to Andrew Kendall he has provided the following link for a range of cameras which works well and gives the # of camera actuations.

Just tried camerashuttercount.com with my canon 1D MkIII and got the following results - "20 with a jpeg" and "unable to determine" with the same file but in RAW format  Not sure how reliable this one is based on these results

Strange, mine came out as the exact number for the image taken, your camera is in the list as is mine D700
