I'm having to plug my camera straight into my laptop as once again a compact flash card reader I've own has given up.
It isn't the end of the world having to plug the camera in each time but it would be nice to own a compact flash card reader that lasts.
I don't really need one of those 6-1 things as my laptop takes sd cards and I can use micro via an adapter for it.

Any suggestions?

I've a SandisK multi card reader which is great, Lexar do a CF card reader as well which gets very good reviews

I have both the Sandisk Pro and the Lexar Pro. They're both great but I'd go for the Lexar over the Sandisk as it's USB 3.0 so will offer a longer term throughput level (all new laptops will have at least 1 USB 3.0 port)

I have the Lexar one and yes it is very good.

USB 3.0 is good theoretically if you can actually get that speed but most modern laptops have 3.0 ports but only perform at 2.0 speeds.
