Hi

I have a 16GB Transcend 133x card in my canon 350D, and i was thinking about getting another card ready for my holiday in May to Cyprus,

On my memory web site at present these are going for £21.99 but i have also noticed that there a few higher speed cards available, obviously at a higher price..

But what improvements would i see in the pictures by purchasing a faster card ?

cheers

You would see no improvement in IQ from using faster cards, it comes down to the speed of writing the images to the cards, if you shoot lots of raw at high frame rate your better of with a fsta card, if youdon't then your 133 card will be fine.

There a bit cheaper from Amazon.

Memory cards don't affect IQ, they do however affect read/write speeds from camera buffer to mem card and mem card to computer. The faster ones will enable you to continuously shoot for longer and that's pretty much it. I would get 2 8GB cards though or 4 4GB cards as they hardly take up any space and if one get's corrupted then you won't lose all your images which is important for trips like Cyprus where for some people it's a once in a lifetime oppurtunity :)

Now that does make sense didnt even give a thought to the memory card getting corrupted,

cheers

Those Transcend 133x cards are decent CF cards for the price, I have a 32gb one in my camera and its great and have never had an issue with it.

With your camera I wouldn't have thought you'd see a massive benefit going for a super fast CF card, although I'm sure someone will prove me wrong on that one. :D

I have had a CF card corrupt on me just once.

This was enough to convince me that several smaller cards is preferential to a single 'all eggs in one basket' card.

Aye, that's a fair point. To be honest if I had my choice over again I would have done that, it was just the 32gb card was going at a silly price that I couldn't refuse. :D

True, if the card speed is the bottleneck. However, the OP is using a 350D and that can't even keep up with their current card. So anything faster will have totally zero effect.
