Been thinking about getting a csc for a while for taking on family days out etc so anyway, on the off chance I entered one of my pictures into a comp to win one, and to my surprise I did! As said in the title it's a Nikon 1 J3. I've been reading up on it and it seems to get pretty mixed reviews but an interesting thing I've seen it that I could potentially buy an adapter to use my f mount lenses. Has anyone used one of these adapters and how does it perform? I'm in two minds if to keep the camera and sell it on for something different but this could be a selling point to keep it. Not too sure about not having a viewfinder either. Are there any other recommendations for a csc at around the same price point?

Gary, I have a V1 (and a 1AW) and have the adaptor (FT-1) to allow me to use F mount AF-S lenses on it. Only played with the 70-300 on it so far but the ~2.7x crop factor makes it a fairly extreme telephoto! I was lucky to pick the adaptor up for just £110 but would have paid more for it had I needed to. Personally, I discounted the J-1 since it has no OVF so bought a V-1 which has an EVF. Then I bought the 1AW which has no VF apart from the rear screen but then again, that's designed for underwater use where it's far easier to use the screen than to peer through a tiny window! Still early days for me with the 1 series but I'm enjoying using them. Only done one reasonable sized print so far and that's only A4 but looks pretty good to my eyes!

The Fuji CSCs seem to be fairly well regarded but I think some of them are a bit more expensive than the 1 series. For a pocket camera, I can recommend the Fuji XF-1 from personal experience and the Panasonic LX-7 from seeing a member here's shots with it (Ricardodaforce).

Cheers Nod. The V1 is one I'm thinking of swapping it for but again mixed reviews. As said the 2.7 crop (on both) makes it a very interesting prospect, I just can't get my head around wildlife shots, which is what I'd mainly be using the long lenses, without a viewfinder. I don't suppose you have a sample image or two do you?
