"Configuring Windows Updates - 0% Complete" !

PC started downloading Windows updates at close down a few nights ago, ever since at startup I get the blue startup screen and the message "Configuring Windows Updates - 0% Complete Do Not Switch Off Your Computer".
It stays with that message for a minute or so and then loads normally but clearly the updates haven't been installed as it does exactly the same thing next time the PC is started uo ... any ideas anyone :thinking:

Thats strange mine does exactly the same thing.When I shut down the m/c it says 'downloading updates'and then shuts down
Its as if the system downloads the updates,shuts down and then installs them when the m/c next starts up.
Never thought about it until now but I'll do a bit of investigating
 
Go to this page:

Microsoft Updates

This should open the Windows Update control panel menu. If not, please open it from control panel.

Click check for updates, when it's done that, click install updates. They should download and install.

Seems the IE9 update is the culprit for me, I had 5 updates due to be installed incl' IE9, strangely enough I already had IE9 installed and working fine.
I installed each update separately and succesfully until IE 9's turn. It came up repeatedly with with failure to configure updates then reverted back to original state.

I uninstalled the previous installation of IE9 hoping it would re-install from the updates list and clear the updates list, still failed to update...I'm confuddled now. Back to IE 8 for me.
 
oddly enough had this on the desktop and the missus laptop over the last few days, went through fine 2nd attempt though on the laptop. the desktop took ages to do but went through eventually first time.

Just install IE9 (Or preferably a decent browser...), and update in the method I described.

Sometimes it takes a while for it to work out certain updates aren't needed, so it won't be able to install one, but after a while it should be sorted. It's only a problem if it is taking time on startup and keeps trying to install.

It happens, Automatic updates glitch occasionally, but usually work if you manually update or just wait for it to try again.
