I've been looking on the net for some reasonably priced backgrounds, black, white etc but they all seem a fair bit when you add on the price of the support too.

Does anyone know of any cheap places or even cost effective DIY jobbies?

Easy peasy :)

Get a cheapish stand system and go to a fabric shop for the cloth. Make sure you buy stuff that's not too cheap as it can be a bit shiny so look for a higher natural fibre content :)

I know of folks who go into b+Q and the likes and get some rolls of paper the free samples and use them as back drops for head and shoulder shots..

Yep use an end of line roll of paper and paper a foam board or piece of ply with it and you have a portable background. :)

king size bed sheets are pretty good too. I have a bespoke white background and a white bedsheet and i would use whichever i got to first

Can I ask a daft question...wouldnt it be hard to get the bedsheet perfectly flat/wrinkle free to avoid shadows or creases?

If you thinking of just lying one on the floor you will struggle. Trust me I know.

Many a time I have had camera in one hand the other holding the sheet while my out stretched foot pulls the sheet the other way at the same time as saing smile for me .. Come on anytime now...

In the end I bought some paper .. Best thing i EVER DID..

It all depends where the sheet is in the shot and if you are blowing the background out. Saves on the ironing too :D

Just had a look on eBay, there are some stands with free White background for about £50. Not sure if they'd do for a start or be too cheap to be usable. Anyone ever tried one? Can't post a link cos I'm using my phone at the min.
