Yes
I'm thinking of going to the aviation field this weekend at Manchester airport with my 500D but i only have a stand 18 - 55mm lens on it which obviously won't be any good lol.

Could some very kind chap maybe let me borrow a lens for the day in exchange for something? or nothing lol

It will only be for about 5 hours or so.

I have looked at rental but they are all mainly 4 day expensive rentals.

Also what lens would you guys recommend for an airport?

Thanks in advance :)

If you go to the right spot, you will get away with the 55mm end of your kit lens :)

If you head for the hotel on the road that goes underneath the runways, and park up at the roundabout between said hotel and tunnels, you can walk up through the NT land and end up right at the start of Runway 2. Presuming it's in use, 55mm will fill your frame with the average sized plane upwards!

I know the 55 would prob do the job just about but i was hoping to get some close up shots also.

Thanks for that info.

Also do you know anything about how it works down there as i've never been.

All the info i can find is something to do wiht £5 after 5pm but can't find directions to the aviations field and parking.

Park just off the main roundabout on the minor road under the name of 'Altrincham Road'

Then switch to satellite view. You can go two ways, either hop over the gate and head up to the airport emergency crash gate, and follow the fence line down the runway, or you can go through the country park (follow the paths) heading north near the river. Eventually, you will reach the embankment where the fence bears left. You can go through a small gap in the fence (it's legit, don't worry) and up onto the embankment which is marked by the worn away grass :D There will no doubt be plenty of people down there if the weather stays good.. so you'll know where is good to go!

It's all free, just watch you don't park on the yellow lines.. the grass verges are fair game though it seems!

there are some very generous people on here, but trusting their telephoto lens to a new member with 32 posts for nothing! hmmm, I don't think you'll be swimming with offers!

That's very understandable but none the less it's allways worth a try.
Maybe the said person would want to come along anyway and happends to have a spare lens.

I ahve to be honest.. I read the request earlier then looked straight over at the post count... Probably makes me a bad or at best cynical person but I did it without thinking...

The worry would always be what happens if it got damaged. Even if it was someone on here like Joe or myself who have 'been around a bit', what would happen in the event of a mark on the lens etc... I dont think I would feel comfortable borrowing a £1k lens, let alone lending one, although a £100 telephoto is different!

I suppose the phrase ''You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover'' would sum this up but i do understand that i have a low postcount and know no one as of yet on here. lol

Would be good if someone came along maybe then.

First thing I noticed was no 'please' in the title.....followed by no please in the post.

Dont think Id borrow an expensive lens off my best friends to be honest let alone unknown peeps.
