So now i have a D5100 on the way and an SD card and Bag :)

I am after two more things to keep me happy for a while...

Id like a Circular Polariser for the 18-55 VR Kit lens

And also UV filter for the same lens

be interested in looking at what people find works...whether thats cheaper ones or the more costly ones

If I'm not mistaken 15-55 VR has rotating front element - thus using a polariser will be quite a trick...
 
You mean how to use a polariser with rotating front element? Basicly you'll have to rotate your filter to correct polarisation angle AFTER you've focused.
 
ahh right...that could be tiresome after a while lol

how about a UV filter mate?

I wouldn't waste your money on a UV filter- a decent one would be half the price of your lens at least and you haven't got premium image quality to begin with. It's fair enough to use one on an expensive lens in situations where debris is getting kicked up but I'd stick to the hood and not degrade the image quality.
 
I agree to Dr Ozone - buying UV for a kit lens makes little sense. Better get a hood if you havn't yet.

The lens will come with a hood if new- Nikon do at least provide them with their lenses unlike Canon who only provide them with top end lenses.

The hood you want is HB-45. Like all bits of plastic the genuine ones are not cheap. You can pick copies up on ebay for much cheapness- sometimes the fit is not as good or they are not matt on the inside but I'm sure there are fine copies out there.

It's not without the realms of possibility that your retailer removed it then charge extra for it. 2 or 3 known ones spring to mind that do do this.
Perhaps the D5100 bundle does not come with one- certainly bundles I know people have bought like D90 and 18-105 did.

I wouldn't dwell on it if you got a good deal as maybe that's the reason- you could query, call their bluff or you could use the previous link or try ebay.

As for remotes- phottix plato are good though you'd need to check they fit your camera- just checked and says D5000 so would have thought so. Good range and reliable but I'm aware you can get cheaper as they are £30 but not sure what to recommend.
