Hey Im looking to start a course and stuck as to which one to go for.
It has to be part time as I work full time but work is flexible so can definetly do a day a week/evening.
So what do I go for? Ive looked at City and guilds levels 1-3 but am put off that it is only 3-4 hours a week and think I would prefer a day so then I looked at the arts institute and have looked at the diploma or the foundation degree, both are part time and would be perfect but unsure which to choose, any opinions from people who have started/completed the courses? Thankyou

I've done the C & G Levels 2 and 3, and can recommend them. I wouldn't be too worried that they're only 3 or so hours a week, as that then gives you time at weekends (or whenever your days off are) to go and take photographs, and practice what you learnt. Both courses are a lot of work - you'll have plenty to do outside the classroom.

Thank you Andy for the advice, have emailed both college and uni for more advice from them too :)
Ben the courses im looking at are through a local college and uni not online, although you can do some online but I learn better by going to a course :)

People on TP often say that there's no point going to college, you can learn everything you'll ever need on here or on the internet generally. That's possible but unlikely.

The benefits I got from going to nightschool were meeting and befriending the other people on the course, all with a wide variety of photographic interests, getting critique and feedback from them and from my lecturer (a tremendously creative chap who had some brilliant ideas), being exposed to all manner of different types of photography (product, studio, fashion, etc), and of course having to submit 2 portfolios of work to a deadline forced me to go out and shoot.

I'm sure there are benefits to distance learning and online courses (I've been seriously considering the OCA courses for a while), but I really enjoyed the classroom courses.

Yeh I have to agree Andy, I just dont learn thoroughly enough by teaching myself, although I have learnt masses on here and online, i still need something more (like a lecturer with a big stick, hitting me till i do it lol) but i want my camera to feel 2nd nature when im out shooting and i think this is the way to achieve that :) thank you for your advice again :D
