We have a Toshiba 17" laptop that needs a new screen. Does anyone know of any links to how to change one and where to buy a replacement. Or failing that any reputable repairers in the Herts area you could recommend.
Last week I replaced th screen on my lad's HP lappy. £65 delivered off ebay for the screen and a half hour's work from me with the watchmakers scrwdriver to replace & test it and job's a good'un... I'll go seek out the link to the eBay seller I used, as the service was great and the price included courier delivery
Correction to the above, it was £68 including RMSD delivery... Regardless of that, it was a bargain (and relief) considering the laptop is only 7 months old and warranty didn't cover the screen being stuffed!
tbh replacing a laptop screen is quite easy (do around 10 a month) and can be done with a couple of small screwdrivers (usually crossheads) depending on model you might need to remove keyboard and some of the surround but it should be quite an easy job.
Update, this link was given to me on another forum http://www.irisvista.com/ which shows how to take apart and repair most Toshiba laptops. The prices for new 17" screens are about 90 pounds and I fancied having a go at doing the job myself.
Most places were quoting around 160 to supply and fit a new screen.
Then I was told about GTEK in Old Stevenage and they can supply and fit a second hand screen for 100 pounds, so thats where it is at the moment.
