Ladies and gents. I've had a search and couldn't find anything on here, hopefully someone here can help or provide opinion.

I would like to use MicroSD cards in my 7D. To do this I would need to use a MicroSD to SD adapter and then a SD to CF adapter (7D only has CF port). Firstly - is this possible? If so would the camera function and still snap at 7fps (guess it depends on the MicroSD card speed).

Why?

Because my phone has a hot plug n play style MicroSD slot. The plan is that I could put the card into the phone, see the images and edit quickly with an app and email/upload immediately - without having to carry a laptop/tablet etc.

What do you think? Anyone do this? Or am I just :bonk:

Would the phone be able to cope with multi-mb photo files of the size that the 7D produces? Then there's the size of the file to be uploaded to consider.

Mike. Yes I've had full hi-res images on the phone before (Galaxy S) and it seemed to cope with them ok (about 200). The software allows me to edit, resize and upload quickly.

Well, this is the plan - but would it actually work?

cant see why it wouldnt work with the correct adapters.

however are the microSD as fast as a normal CF?

Yeh that's the worry. I'm pretty sure the read/write speed might not be as fast... which could mean I wouldn't get the full potential out of the 7D when needed...

:D

I think instead of pratting around I will. Should be able to get the bits I need for less than a tenner so not exactly an expensive experiment :)

The very cheap SD-CF adapters are only SD compatible, it might be a bit more than a tenner for a SDHC compatible adapter.

I did try this about a year ago, the cheap one worked quite well (2GB max SD card), the more expensive SDHC adapter kept giving me card error every now and then in camera so I gave up on it.

Of course, YMMV.
