Yes
I was given a box of Lomography Redscale XR for Xmas... first roll went into an old Sureshot zoom.

Exposed the film at 100ASA and popped it into the local developers... not too happy with all the dust I had to clean and edit off but after a quick tweak in CS4 was pleased with this from the first part of the roll.. what do you think ?

I have only just started shooting in film and i didn't know there was this type of thing around. I really love these kind of effects, really emotive to me for some reason, seem to remind me of a past i never had :)cuckoo:)

Are these expensive or is it specialist stuff?

isn't redscale film, just really normal film, but wound onto the reel backwards, so you shoot through the "wrong side" of the film ??

Yup some folks apparently do it by unwinding the film , cutting it off then taping it on the spool reversed. Fuji film seems best for it. The rebate on the Lomo stuff seems to be not as opaque as some so gives a lot of tonal range in the reds.

You need to do it with 400 ASA or faster film as you increase the exposure by reversing it as it has to pass through the rebate to get to the emulsion - which is why the Lomography stuff is sold as 50-200 ASA

I like this shot, I love weird colours.

I've also never heard of doing this before, may be worth giving it a go! Got any other examples?

Not many of my own yet as I wasn't too happy with the camera I was using as it was just an old Canon compact and I am still learning the viewfinder on it... but have a look at the lomography site... for more examples. http://www.lomography.com/photos/films/871911558-lomography-redscale/popular

I have another roll I shot on my old warhorse, an EOS 600 , at 50 ASA to go into the nearest lab when I have time to get there. Not so easy now we don't have 1hr labs in every shopping area. :D

Couple of further things to add for anyone else thinking about using this film is that if you shoot this at 100-200 ASA you seem to get varying levels of red as the main colours , but if you shoot at 50 you increase blues and greens.

Also the ISO code on the film case set the detection on the compact I used to shoot at 100 ASA.

If you shoot in the 50-200 range there is supposed to be no need to push or pull the development.

It's about 9 quid for three rolls direct from the Lomography store or plenty of "hip" places sell it ... like Top Man and HMV believe it or not.

It cost me 2 quid to get it processed at the local lab for the first roll.

I'd never have thought of looking in HMV for film.. .. a walk into town this afternoon is in order..

Love the shot, there's something visually nostalgic about chair-a-plane rides that really suits the look from the film.

Cheers Alistair , but I am hoping it just wasn't for Xmas as I only have one unexposed roll left :D

Out of interest I have been shooting at different speeds to see the effect - this is from one roll shot at ASA 50. Unfortunately still in the "Golden Hour" after dawn so very saturated reds and yellows.

This one shows how the blues get a bit of a sludgy effect... taken slightly later than the one above.
