Crop factor

Yes
Hopefully this is an easy question. I'm thinking of getting the D700 and Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 lens, I currently have a D90 and my main lens is a Tamron 17-50mm which covers my range perfectly. Now I know the crop factor for the DX range is 1.5 so would my Tamron effectively be 25.5-75mm?

Put more simply would the Nikon 24-70mm on a D700 give me the same ranage as my D90 17-50mm?

In field of view terms, yes. The focal length of a lens does not change whether on FF or Cropped.

And you will get shallower depth of field with full frame, just over a stop, f/number for f/number, with the same framing.
