Cycle Speedway has existed since 1946, Four riders race four laps in a sprint to reach the chequered flag which rarely takes longer than 50 seconds as tracks vary in length from 65 to 90 metres . Todays race was between Astley & Tyldesley v Stockport 2006 .

This event was held at Tyldesley in Greater Manchester, the track co-held the 2003 world championships with the Bury track,There are about 50 clubs covering the UK. For full details see the British Cycle Speedway Website

British Cycling state in the rules for this sport that "physical contact is both legal and often necessary"
