D100 to D700??

Hi all, I'm a newbie to the forum and looking for some opinions on a potential change of kit. I've been using a Nikon D100 for a number of years and although it is absolutely mint and delivering great shots, I think it's about time to update.
I'm working through a pro course at the moment and looking to make some money on the back of my pictures in future.
So, let's cut to the chase...is the jump from D100 to D700 too great?? I realise financially there is a huge divide, however I want to set myself up with a kit bag that will deliver images that are good enough to sell (before anyone says it...I realise it is not the camera that sees the picture, merely records it for others).
Any thoughts from other Nikon owners?

Cheers,
Steve

If you have lenses that are compatible with full frame nd you have the cash go for it. You will be amazed at the image and low High ISO noise. I had D70s (a few of) then a D70s) now a D300 and a considerable leap forward that was...

Though the D300s might also be a good option for you..

I have had a D1x, D200 and D700 but not a D100.

The are all good cameras and the quality of the D700 is obviously streets ahead of the D100 as it is several generations newer plus there is the switch to full frame. As for use there is no real difference other than the fact that you can go to vastly higher ISO levels without there being any problems whatsoever. If you have any DX lenses they will still work with the D700 but in DX mode the resolution will be reduced to about 5mp which is around the same as the D100 was. If you decide to sell the D100 after you get the D700 make sure you post me a link to the thread :)

thats quite a jump, but it's do-able if you have FF lenses, go for it

I think you'd be astounded by the jump in quality between the D100 and the D700. Your D100 might seem good now but back when I was a lad, I thought the graphics on my Commodore 64 were awesome too but things move on...

As others have suggested, check that your lenses are compatible before you make the jump - if they're DX only then a D300s might be a better bet.

d700 is 10times the price ! :D if you do get the d700 after d100 you should take a week of, because you'll be shocked. not saying that the d100 is bad had it for couple years myself. do you have top lenses ?

Thanks for all the comments. My most recent purchase is a 70-300 Nikon lens which is FX compatible. I might need to invest in a couple more lenses to replace DX versions but I'm happy to do that post camera purchase. Looking to buy soon to take advantage of free battery grip from Nikon.
I'll come back and post if/when I take the plunge!!!
