D300 - Long exposure - Cancelling

Gonna ask a stoopid question... But being abloke and not having the manual handy...



I was doing a long exposure last night. Well I set up the ISO to L1 or L3... lowest setting, and f11. At 11pm it was prety dark, so it said low on the timer... Click and off it went...

Then someone turned up behind me on the road, which is not nice when you are on your own with an expensive camera... so I wanted to cancel it... I turned it off.. but I wanted to know whether there was a better method.
 
I can't help... just wanted to say that the same thing has happened to me many times, I just turn it off but inspired by your post :) I'm going to see if there's a proper way :)
 
When I have wanted to cancel a long exp (usually as I forgot I was on 30s) I just turn it off as that's what the manual tells you to do to cancel mirror lock up for cleaning anyway.
 
I know when i do time-lapses on my D5000 to cancel you turn the mode dial which ends the pre set you have made....

hahaha :lol:

I was on a rise and they pulled up on the road in a honda civic type r.
Its near a pub but at 11pm with your camera - unless you've invited them, you'd prefer they don't do a three point turn and pull up...
