D3000 + 18-55mm VR - Good Price?

Would £299 be a good price for a D3000 + 18-55mm VR lens?

It's what my brother in law paid for his from Amazon last month and was the cheapest I could find then..

We have a D3000 for training and I don't like it. Poor lcd, noisy images at 400 iso and slow image processing. Conversly several people have brought along the D3100 which does cost more - £389 at Bristol Cameras is the best I see with a quick look- and it's absolutely superb.
