I have a just got a D50 and have discovered it doesn't have a port for a remote shutter release which limits my options a lot when wanting to stuff with long exposures etc. Must admit had I discovered this earlier I might have gone D70(s) instead, but never mind.
As far as I can tell this leave me with the Nikon IR wireless remote (or cheap eBay copy at least) but do I have any other options?
Being a newby I may be making this up but from reading about it sounds like I can use a flash trigger system to fire the camera as well, or do these require a cable into a shutter release, rather than a hot shoe connection?
I don't have a flash unit yet bar some old film ones (which I gather I shouldn't use as they can damage the DSLR, can some one confirm) but I do intend to get 1/2 at some point so if the flash method is viable then it might be wise to invest now.
