D5000

I posted earlier in the week that I was quite taken with the reviews of the Pentax k-r and was considering this due to it's apparent value for money. I now see that an even cheaper alternative would be a nikon D5000 with twin lens kit. Would I be compromising for the sake of a few quid. Would appreciate some honest opinions on the D5000

The D5000 is an excellent camera, it has great noise control even really high up. I'm not too fond of mine at the moment thought, it's just cone back from being repaired for a month and I've been using a D200...and going back to a small tiny plastic menu driven camera....!!! But that's just me, it's a great camera really, suburb quality sensor.

It's a great camera - I got 2 of them!

I'm using them with great lenses and the image quality is fab

Defo recommend but there are rumours if a D5100 coming soon

I love mine. Fits my hands perfectly. I usually have a 18-200mm on it which together for me works very well.

Drawbacks? There are only two for me. The lack of in-body motor eliminates the ability to AF on older (cheaper) lenses and it is menu driven. The latter is not such of an issue to me and I am more than happy enough to hold onto this for the next few years (or until a D7000 falls into my price range).

Id go for this and some good glass, but as always, get to a camera shop and try it out yourself.
