Hi all

been out today taking shots, processed the raw files and have marks on all my shots top left of picture!!
I am not sure what i am looking for in the "oil spots" if it is at all!!
If i have tken a shot in jpeg format you do not get these marks on the end pic can only replicate it in RAW files!
Just looking for confirmation as only had it 3 weeks or so from London camera exchange!!

These are most likely dust on the sensor. Should be consistent in all frame. Looks like you are due a sensor clean!

Edit:
Sorry I didn't read properly: "If i have taken a shot in jpeg format you do not get these marks on the end pic can only replicate it in RAW files!"
This is weird are you sure?

Are the jpeg images shot at the same aperture?

Just had a better look and you can see it in both file types, my mistake sorry!!!!

cheers for the quick reply

Send it off to Nikon, for cleaning, under warranty. If this issues persists, you will be entitled, to a replacement D610.

i bought it second hand from London camera exchange so how would i go about that, dont think it has a warranty left?

Fairly certain that LCE give a warranty (3-6 months?) on 2nd hand kit. However, as John's said, the oil spots (which is what they look like to me) are an issue that Nikon are covering.

I think this is the oil issue (given by the pattern). I had my D600 replaced for D610 because of that (and mine sensor was cleaner than the one above)

I think Nikon is routinely cleaning/repairing D600. They previously publicly said that:

Nikon has been accepting cameras for inspection and corrective servicing for the issue described below. At this time, we are announcing that we will continue to provide this service free of charge, even after the product warranty has expired.

So even when your camera is not in the warranty, they should still service it for you for free.

Yep, send it off. There is a standard process to follow. Call Nikon customer services to kick it off.

Mine is on it's way there as we speak for exactly the same issue.

cheers to all of you wonderful people :D

awaiting email on instructions for it being sent to nikon to be sorted out

I'd much rather clean it myself than be sending it anywhere if possible - couriers!

i wouldnt now where to even start to attempt it! plus if i mess it up theres not alot i can do, if they mess it up they'll replace it ( hopefully)

In this case Nikon pays for the shipping both ways.

And since this is a lubrication residue (given by the fact it is concentrated mostly in top left corner) it will be much more difficult to clean at home. You'd need to use wet cleaning (with risks to your sensor) and repeat it since the source of the dirt is inside the camera.

If you ship to Nikon, they not only clean the sensor, but also do general check of the camera, clean mirror box area, replace internal dust gathering tape, replace shutter plate and other major parts if necessary. A few lucky ones (me included) got a free D610 upgrade. The only negative is that you have to part with your camera for a few days/weeks.

Mine is going back for a second time. They told me it'll be away 2-4 weeks this time. It was done 4 month ago and had new parts fitted. I have sent questions to a manager at nikon to answer before I return it to them again. This was a week ago and I still haven't had a reply.

so really the clean and replacement parts is a waste of time? i have been told 2\4 week it could be gone for, hopefully not but as long as it comes back working it will be ok

Has been for me mate. Not saying it'll be that for everyone.

It is not a complete waste of time. There is a finite amount of the lubricant and the situation will eventually improve and the sensor will require less and less cleaning over time.

well camera on its way back to me after nikon only receiving it on the 13th jan! quick turn around i think.........just awaiting arrival of it on monday
