D610 using BBF, Shutter half press causes lens to shudder

Hi All, using Tamron 70-300mm and Nikon 24-85mm with D610 set for BBF, am getting lens shudder when shutter button is depressed, it is similar to when VR activates when using AF-On button. Have I missed a setting or ........?

That's right. The back button initiates focus and metering only. Only the shutter button engages VR.

Is this right? I always thought the idea of BBF was to separate focus from metering and leave metering on the front shutter release button.

I only have lowly D7100 and can only set back button to focus mode, do you have more choices with the better camera?
 
Many thanks for above comments, much appreciated. From further research, it appears that both AF-On and Shutter button can activate VR - I just find it disconcerting that having focused with AF-On button a half press of shutter button can cause VR activation - it wasn't so on my D700. Life goes on
 
I don't think my D610 does what's been described here, bought in 2014. Maybe there is a firmware out there correcting this issue?

It was, used to confuse the hell out of me ;)

Its always been this way on Nikon bodies
