D700 ordered (and Nikon PLUS scheme)

Cool !

I can recommend the following two (cheap) upgrades, if you haven't already considered them :naughty: ...

Link 2 ...

(Not recommending the sellers here, specifically, but puddleduck put me onto these upgrades for my D700 and the screen protector in particular was the best 10 quid I've spent on camera equipment ).

Enjoy your new toy ;).

Got home whilst there was actually some light left :)

The good old AF 50mm f1.8, I only have two FF lenses till next week (pleeeease poss week after) when I add the Sigma 20mm and then the end of August when I can add the AFS 24-70 f2.8

I just lurve the dof of the nifty

can I be nosy and ask why you've gone for the super-wide 20mm prime, 'specially on FF? Not that it's a bad choice, just not a lens I've heard much about...

I am buying the 24-70 f2.8 and I have a 105 2.8, I just thought that the 20 would give me more options. I will be looking at getting a 70-200 later but it might be much later!!

I have vouchers for £50 off the AFS 50mm f1.4 and £75 off the AFS 70-300. I will definitely be selling one of my AF 50mm f1.8 lenses to fund the AFS 50mm f1.4 at the end of September :)

Nice pics :)

I just traded in my 50mm 1.8 for the AFS 50mm f 1.4 G and I'm very happy. It's a beautiful lens. Radiohead's site is testament to that!

Do you not fancy the 14-24 2.8 lens? I'm the devil on your shoulder you know :p

Not at the moment (and Blue Moon 7 is pleased about that :)) I am working a lot of overtime at the moment which so far has finished paying for the D700, paying for the 24-70 and then the extra for the AFS50f1.4 after that its all going on Christmas  IF I can manage to carry on until nearer christmas I can get another lens but really I think I need something longer and I want to get Mrs C something really nice too! I really will need to ask for advice on that though, best super tele zoom under £1200.....

Fantastic shot ; mind you, you could have shot great shots in pitch dark too :p, as you will figure for yourself.

20/1.8 is booked, semi-confirmed, coming to UK this Tuesday 4th August. Though, person carrying it (namely, me) can't find any reservations to get back! Seems I may be "stuck" in UK for a while :p .. not that I am complaining.

Wow... ... congratulations Chris... ... a great buy m8... ;)

Excuse me... ... there is NO such thing as "a very unpleasant shade of Green" ... :rules:

:bat:

:p

Was in Fixation a few days ago and looked longingly at a D3
in the cabinet there for £1900, I was green then too

Andy,

Yes both of those things really do look like top additions. Together with a grip and a wireless remote! I have been looking at an after market grip from a company call Link Delight which is vastly cheaper than Nikon's

Light? You don't need much of that any more ;)

I took a picture at 6400 in so low light that I couldn't see but the camera got a shot !!!! I am gob smacked especially after the D200. I really like the D200 but always used a flash if the ISO was needing to go above 400 - now I maybe wont need to.

That really is a good price for the D3, about the same as a D700 and grip! The D700 though is new and that is a big deal for me. It has taken me 6 months overtime, my birthday present, my christmas present and selling my 2nd laptop to afford the D700 !!! If it had not been for a major problem at work and a massive increase in overtime for a few months the 24-70 would have been another 6-8 months rather than the end of August. I could have just managed to afford the D3 but I would have missed out on the lens.

So, what you're saying is you need to break more things ;)

I think they would not be happy! Hopefully I will get many years use out of the D700. The D1x is still producing excellent images despite being rather old now :) Looking forwards to IR ing it ;)

i whole heartedly reccomend it, great fun, and welcome to the club ;)

<---- :D

Cheers. I will be doing the conversion myself but have not yet decided on whether to be a clear plate and use an IR filter OR use an IR plate. Both will give me the same effect, speed etc BUT the IR plate means that it cannot be used for anything else BUT the clear plate means that I need an expensive IR filter for every lens! Still undecided but will probably go IR plate route as I still have 2 more bodies.

if you have the clear plate/filter route will the shutter speeds be reduced like a normal use of ir filter? the one thing i love about the converted d70 is the fact i can snap away using it at normal speeds without that annoying removing/focus/replacing business which sucks all the fun and spontaneity out of it

No they would be the same speed. The clear plate replaces the plate fitted by Nikon to remove the IR. THAT is the reason why using a IR filter on a normal camera causes the slow speed because the filter inside the camera lets very little IR through (which is its job!)

ahh ok, so what would happen when you took normal photos, how would the extra ir getting effect the shots

I'm not sure. The sites I have read about IR photography haven't said anything about that.

He's a star Stuart! Hope we can boost his business a bit through here. Always good to have someone we can get good service and a good price from.....

If the 18-200 goes in the next day or so I'll be using them again this week then again for the 24-70 and again for the AFS 50mm f1.4 (although he is a tenner too high on that one :))

Happy Birthday :)

Time for a , or two :beer:

Why thank you....

I am sure I will have a beer or two tomorrow, can't go mad though because I seem to have spent all my money on camera equipment :naughty:

Mrs C isn't far behind either, it was her birthday on Wednesday and I bought her 2 cameras! An OM10 and ............... a Kodak Brownie 127 :)

Oh my dad handed me a bag yesterday with yet another camera in it...... a Praktica MTL5B ! I will be starting a thread about that one in the film section shortly :) My son Cameron is taking Photography at A level from NEXT year so just trying to get together a digital and film outfit for him. My studio/dark room will be well up and running by then too.
