Hello all

Anyone want to speculate on this?

Would like to hear your thoughts.

Cheers

I predict it will be updated/upgraded sometime in the future

Get ready for loads of uninformed guesses and wild speculation on it's spec... ;)

No offence but do you have access to any INFORMED speculations??

KR does not rate very big on my planet...

Agreed, but you asked for speculation!

Original post deleted, didn't mean to post worthless speculation.

Your guess is as good as anyone's mate ;)

I wouldn't let it affect a purchasing decision personally, plenty of more important aspects to consider.

ill just buy a D700 when its comes down in price like the D300, then ill have the best of both worlds DX and FX bodies....

i dont think ill be able to afford a D700x/s / D800.

Yep, like will I get decent prices for my Canon gear...

But seriously, I would like to run dual systems but the wallet isn't thick enough.

Lusting over the D3 but the wallet isn't thick enough for that and decent glass either...I guess in my heart and mind I have the decision but reality dictates that I must flog all my Canon gear and then Buy Nikon goodies...

PS, care to share considerations you would have? would like to hear your perspective on that.
Not too easy on a civil servant salary;)

From Nikon UK.

"Won't be announcing a new D700 for almost 12 months"

That was in January when I phoned them to ask because I didn't want to get caught out if it was imminent.

They will do it at some point but my own personal feeling is that they will wait until they have maximum take up on the D3X before they introduce a cheaper variant. And if the price gets hiked like the D3 to D3x you could end up kicking yourself. That's why I went ahead with mine :)

It's what I want so I may as well buy it, something new will always be round the corner so I have to just get what I can, when I can that fits both budget and performance.

Very true Ali

Just would HATE to buy one days or weeks before the "upgrade model" is out...although upgrades aren't ALWAYS improvements and the D700 has proved itself.

I was also seriously considering a nice 2nd hand one off fleebay as I have had a good run with my last 4 bodies off fleebay.uk...more money for nice new glass... oh well...

BTW, have advertised all my gear locally...

Grays westminster was selling a few of the these second hand

around the £1500.00 mark. i missed out... but cant really justify it...

I wouldn't worry if they bring a new one out, it's a great camera in low light by all accounts, i knew they were going to discontinue the D300 but i still went and bought a new one, you can't buy one brand new now anyway as far as i've seen on the net.
You are still getting tomorrows technology today, make it last a few years and keep it as a back up just like people keep a D300/D700....D70/D300 etc.

Give my apologies to your wife will you? :)

:lol::lol::lol:

Will do! You are quite safe halfway around the globe...she was quite impressed with your informative PM's so maybe I have to thank you...:naughty:

True...a good piece of kit will always be good and in my case I reckon it is the Nikon's reproduction of reds and the CLS that basically won me over.

Cheers

Nikon France, Germany and Italy all have offers on with the D700, free Battery Grip, Free Sb-900, etc... Trying to shift the stock?

Just ordered a D700 and 24-70 2.8. Fed up of waiting for the rumoured upgrade! I've come to terms with the idea of a new one coming out a week after I have bought. But I also reckon we're going to be looking at around £2.5k for the replacement, which puts it out of my reach at the moment.

I will be a bit miffed if Nikon UK do a grip or SB-900 deal a week after I pick up mine though...!

well done for doing it, i knew about the d300s was going to be release but still bought a d300.

Whether the camera is suitable for your needs perhaps?

If it's the camera you want just get it, worrying about it being superseded isn't constructive. If it's the one that you want, just go buy it
