D7100 / Nikon 300f4 af-s / nikon tc17e II combo problem

Hi all the 300f4 afs and 1.7x worked fine on my d7000 but picked up my new d7100 yesterday and tested today and will not focus if I use the 300 bare it's fine add the tc and the focus arrows both flash and no focus I've cleaned contacts but no good I tried the 1.7 on the d7100 and 105vr that worked, I also have latest firmware.

Anyone else have this combo ? and seen any issues

Anything to do with the effect the 1.7 has on the f stop?

I wish it was but it works on the D7000 and the D7100 is supposed to be F8 focus capable
