I would like to know how good this kit lens is. Thinking of buying a D90 but don't know what walk about lens would be a good addition.

I have the D90 with the 18-105 VR lens - it's a beauty.

The range is excellent for most things and the quality is nice and crisp.

If you are forking out cash on it, you might like to look at the 18-200. I don't know what the difference is in price, but I do miss the extra length I had with the 200mm. Moon shots for example were great on the 18-200, but I don't think the 18-105 quite cuts it.

I have a D90 and 18-105 for sale by the way if you are looking second hand. Not the reason I posted, just an after thought.

It's partly the reason I'm asking the question Barry:lol: I'll probably be too late in making my mind up as I'm very slow and deliberate that way and it will be some hours if not tomorrow before I could organise and make an offer. I will keep an eye on it though. I might have to sell first if I can't raise the cash so I'm weighing up all options at the mo.

Well there you go!

The 18-200 I had was a Tamron lens. Price wise it wasn't too different, I paid £130 for it and I think the Nikon 18-105 goes for about £150.

The quality of picture is very different though - partly down to the VR I think. Maybe someone else has more experience and could tell you a bit more about the difference?

It's a popular lens and there are lots of people out there that use this as their main walk around.

The only other lens I have owned is the Nikon 18-55 - that def didn't have enough zoom range.

Good luck with your research and hunt for a bargain ;)
