D90 fault?

Hello there everyone,
I seem to have noticed a perculiarity with my D90.
The focus points in the viewfinder have a fine straight line (in black) leading all the way to the edge of the frame. This is the case with whichever point is chosen although the line moves so that it reaches for the nearest edge of the frame to the point in question.
I have just noticed this so I don`t think it was always the case, and I would struggle to believe that it`s supposed to be like this.
So is this a fault or a feature I can turn off in the menus?

Perfectly normal, it was always there and you've only just noticed it. Both my D90s have been like that, I think it's mentioned in the manual somewhere as well.
 
yes and on my other Nikons, I thought it was a fault but I think its the electrical connection that enables the focus points to be turned red when appropriate.

It just seemed unusual as my D40 is not like that and now I`ve noticed it I`m finding it really distracting and I`m looking at it more than what I`m photographing.
 
I've noticed it too, but it doesn't bother me.

It's caused by the electrical contact in the LCD that turns the focus points on and off
