Dell IPS Monitor...Advice please.

Thank you all who replied to my previous post.

Under £100, whom was I kidding.

I have a 5/6 year old computer running XP.

This is the monitor I'm considering.................

The connections to my current monitor are 3, one power, a thick and a thin one to the computer.

The connectivity requirements for the above monitor are.........
1 Digital Visual Interface connectors (DVI-D) with HDCP
DisplayPort (DP)
Video Graphics Array (VGA)
1 USB 2.0 upstream port
4 USB 2.0 downstream ports
DC power connector for Dell Soundbar

This seems far more connections than I can provide.

Buit in Devices are....
USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Hub (with 1 USB upstream port and 4 USB downstream ports)


I see it's HD with a resolution of 1920x1080, is it overkill and will it work with my system or is additional software required.

If I'm heading up the wrong path please let me know, as you may have guessed, it's all greek to me.

Maybe suggest a suitable alternative at about the same size and price.

You only need a single connection to your monitor. VGA will work and you will have it on your PC (it's a 15 pin 3 row connector where you connect your monitor). This is an analog connection and you would get a better (slightly) picture if you connected via DVI or display port. It is unlikely that your PC has either of these (it may have DVI, but that will depend on the graphics card/system).

By the way, the thin connector to your current monitor is likely the speakers. You may need to buy a set of external speakers whilst you're at it (I have a set of £5 ones which do fine, but then I never do any critical listening at the PC).

I read somwhere where it said that I would need a new graphics card to cope with the HD resolution.

I recently bought the 23 inch version of the monitor you linked..

you only need 1 connection to your computer.. dvi or vga (or Display port i guess).

You can also connect a usb cable between the monitor and your computer. I am assuming this is so that you can use the usb ports located on the monitor itself.
