i just bought a used 1d mkiii described as mint- from a well-known retailer. The problem is that it has a dent in the housing near the flash mount. On first inspection, the camera appears to function ok but i am worried about possible internal damage.

i have few days to return the camera if i want but wondered if anyone had an opinion of whether there could be an underlying issue or am i just being too fussy?

Definitely not being too fussy. If I bought a second hand item that is described as mint then I would expect it to be exactly that.

Throw it back at them, mint means mint so it should be like new with no marks whatsoever!

This just highlights the fun of buying from used gear dealers. Their descriptions make me laugh. When they say it is really good condition it means it is battered as hell

That dent will almost certainly make no difference to the camera or your work and they can withstand loads more. If you want to bite back the dealer is another question - and you probably should

There's very little under the hotshoe area except for the prism. I'd line up on something using the centre AF point as a reference and then use Liveview to see if the same feature is centred on the screen.

You have paid for a "mint" camera and not got what you paid for.

It obviously bothers you, so send it back.

Thanks all, think I'll return it. Its not worth the risk.
If I knew it was an old injury that hasn't affected use, I could accept that.
But it could have happened in transit to me and knocked something out of alignment.
I wasn't overly impressed with the focussing during testing today but that be a MA issue.
