Hi,

does anyone use a digital medium format camera. im interested in seeing some images from one that are not supplied by manufacturers and was also wondering how they compare to a standard DSLR like a Eos 5D.

:)

I don't know of anyone here who uses one, wouldn't mind one myself but it will have to wait till I win the lottery next week :)

I did take a look at getting one, till I saw the prices - £20,000 is about the mark, it seems, so I bought 2 - one as a back up.

I would say digital backs are still firmly in the realm of the professional.

I suppose there's the option of hiring one if you were desperate to find out, but still a lot of dosh probably.

wow didnt realise they were all so expensive. thought there might have been a lower scale option like in the low thousands

You can pick up a digital back occasionally on fleabay but at £6000 for a 6mp back I don't consider it such good value.

There is an article in one of the mags this month (and I can't find it!) about the phase one 20mp back on a hasselblad and comparing it to a DSLR.

Unfortunately you need rather a large investment to go there.
