I have very defined dust specks on the viewfinder of my 20D. they are in focus all the time, and don't move. Are these likely to be on the mirror or focusing screen (I have a katz-eye screen installed). I need to clean the sensor too while i'm in there.

any advice?

almost certainly dust on the focus screen
mirror will be OOF
quick puff with a pocket rocket should move it about:rules:

Take a photo of a grey sky (or similar) put it on your screen and look. Magnify if need be and any dust will show up on the image. If it is just in your viewfinder, leave it and ingnore it!

I have sensor crud and viewfinder crud, I hae identified them both just wondered where the viewfinder crud would be found, didn't fancy trying to clean the mirror if not needed.

nah you don't want to mess with the mirror
even more sensitive to fumble fingers than a sensor! :gag:

It sounds as though it is dust on the focus screen itself. As you have replaced it it should be no bother to remove it and blow the dust off if it bothers you. If it does not move you can clean it with some Eclipse fluid (used for sensor cleaning) and one of the wipes you have for that. Do not touch the screen with your fingers though as it can get etched onto the matt surface.
