These were taken last light at the "secret" trails near Inverness. My son Greg is getting good at jumps as his confidence has grown. It is a joy for a parent to see one's son enjoy his sport so much.

As it was an overcast night and only an hour before sunset the light was miserable with the camera having to be set at 1600 ISO.

Thanks for looking. :)

#2 for me :)

Good stuff (y)

I used to dirt jump, but I ran out of time to ride back in october, and slowly the use of my bike has decreased and decreased. It's such a shame.

I was just starting to get good too :p

Thanks for the feedback guys!

One more with Greg giving it a little whip. He did one with a turn-down but the flash never fired! :bang:

Lovely shots. Number 1's my fave, though I seem to be going against the flow.

Worrying that you had a flash mis-fire - I've just got myself some Pocket Wizards!

I think it's down to the position of your lad's bike causing interference, and should be more reliable with more grounded subjects :LOL:

like number one alot, what setting did you use?

Thanks again guys!

Good to see so many riders here! (y)

Oli - :LOL:

xsjado-man - I tend to keep the exif intact in my pictures (exif reader is a worthwhile download) but the setting on the flash was manual 1/16th. It was mounted on a tripod about 4 feet away. It is also available as a Firefox add-on.

The exif for the first shots is detailed below but at f3.2 and 1/100th second this was as marginal in lighting terms as it gets.

Exif Sub IFD

* Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/100 second = 0.01 second
* Lens F-Number/F-Stop = 32/10 = F3.2
* Exposure Program = manual control (1)
* ISO Speed Ratings = 1600
* Exif Version = 0221
* Original Date/Time = 2008:08:08 20:39:21
* Digitization Date/Time = 2008:08:08 20:39:21
* Shutter Speed Value (APEX) = 6643856/1000000
Shutter Speed (Exposure Time) = 1/100 second
* Aperture Value (APEX) = 3356144/1000000
Aperture = F3.2
* Exposure Bias (EV) = 0/1 = 0
* Max Aperture Value (APEX) = 3/1 = 3
Max Aperture = F2.83
* Metering Mode = pattern / multi-segment (5)
* Flash = Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode
* Focal Length = 16/1 mm = 16 mm
* Colour Space = sRGB (1)
* Image Width = 800 pixels
* Image Height = 533 pixels
* Focal Plane X-Resolution = 5008000/1420 = 3526.76
* Focal Plane Y-Resolution = 3334000/945 = 3528.04
* Focal Plane X/Y-Resolution Unit = inch (2)
* Custom Rendered = normal process (0)
* Exposure Mode = manual exposure (1)
* White Balance = auto (0)
* Scene Capture Type = standard (0)

Cool shots and a talented rider for sure...

You must be proud!

Cracking shots, all crisp and clear, and you must be well chuffed with Greg's progress-possible Olympic place in 2012?
