Disappointed with sigma

I own a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8, EX HSM, Canon Mount. Serial No. 2002711. It's an older lens I know but some people swear by this lens and that's what posessed me to buy a used one. Anyhow, mine developed a fault. It's a focusing issue, images are mushy. Although it seems to like bright daylight as it performs somewhat better in the sunshine. Regardless, it's not usable as I am not happy with the image quality.

I contacted Sigma in the U.K. and they said they could not do anything to help as they can't source parts for this lens anymore. I tried Sigma Germany and got more or less the same reply.

I am so kicking myself for not having stuck with Canon. This was my first foray with third party equipment and it's been a complete waste of money.

Anyone know of some wizard who can fix this lens for me. It's either that or convert it into a coffee mug :(
 
Shame, years back I had the same issues, new Sigma, went soft, told nothing could be done... I've never gone back even though time has moved on and Sigma produce some great glass (so I read). These days I stick with Canon.
 
few years back had an issue with and old Sigma 500mm, could be fixed but Sigma UK did offer a trade in
 
Personally I rarely read of issues with Sigma, there was a thread a few weeks back where Sigma stepped up and repaired a lens that I think was out of grantee or was repaired before but went wrong again so was fixed for free, the latter I think. I'd say someone would be able to recommend somewhere where it can be repaired.
 
Manufacturers do have to support their products for a certain length of time after manufacture ends but what length of time that is for Sigma and lenses I don't know, maybe googling will get you to that nugget of informstion and if they're not meeting their legal requirements you've got a case against them.

Manufacturers don't always support their products forever and they do post notices when products are no longer supported, or at least they did in the sector I worked in so if Sigma no longer support an older product that wouldn't cause me to fall off my chair in astonishment as long as they've supported it for as long as the legislation requires.

Other than the legal requirement I'd expect the cost to be considered too, for example there's no way I'd send my FD 50mm f1.4 to Canon for repair as by the time Canon had charged me for opening the box it'd be BER.

So, to enable me to decide if I'm going to aim negative thoughts at Sigma I'm just wondering how old is the lens and do you know when it went out of production and how much is it worth?

I had an sigma 70-200 EX HMS for Nikon,the elements just under surface went,problem know by sigma,big bill to get to fix the elements not happy (n)

ALL manufacturers stop supporting old tech, I've got an iPad 1 that cost me £600 that's stuck with IOS 5 :(

It's a very basic fact of life
 
This is common with most manufacturers with regards to old lenses, not just Sigma.

The original Sigma 70-200 (if it's the mk1 you have) is 15 years old now.
