Hello all,

I currently have a d70 and d200

a nikkor 35-70
a nikkor 70-300 not vr :(
and the trusty 50mm 1.8

I was thinking about replacing the 35-70 but dont really know what with.

I will be wanting to use the new lens for weddings.

What would you recommend please
 
Hi Aaron, I would be looking at a Sigma 24-70mm F/2.8 or Tamron 28-85mm F/2.8.
 
it all depends on how much you want to spend on a lens. You could go for a 24-70mm f2.8 lens costing about £1200+ , but I guess that may be a bit out of your budget

Without a firm stated budget, you'll get everything from a £169 35mm f/1.8 to a £1250 24-70 f/2.8 recommended.

The other thing is, you want a replacement lens - do you want the exact same focal length, would you like it wider on the 35 side or more of a telephoto on the 70 side?

In that case, sell both the 35-70 and the 70-300 and get a 70-300 VR and a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 (non-motorised).

Still not ideal as you really need all your glass to be f/2.8 or faster, but a start.....
 
would like something a little wide and about 70-80 is fine
 
i dont really use the 70-300, if i do its only to maybe 150 its wasted honestly
 
I would say that any medium zoom with a 24, 28 or 35 "wide" end is primarily aimed at film or full frame shooters. I used to have a 17-55/2.8 when I had a DX camera and it was a really nice zoom range. If I was a DX shooter aiming to go FX then I would look at the 17-35/2.8 as this will also work as a wide zoom on FX, unlike the 17-55/2.8.
