Ditching my primes in favour of a zoom?

Sorry couldn't resist the title with the other thread!

I have the Voigtlander 40mm f2 and 58mm f1.4, and Nikon 85mm f1.4

I Thought I always wanted to get the D700, so I was wanting to get the Nikon 24mm f2.8.

But to be honest my D300 seems to be awesome enough, should I ditch the 40mm and 58mm and get the Nikon 17-55mm instead?

Its a waste of money to have both,

THe image quailty from the two primes is stunning, I know the IQ will be poorer from the zoom,

But I do have bad days with the manual foucs. I do have some shot that would be really cool if they where in focus!

the main problem is there doesn't seem to be any "good" wide primes with out spending silly money on Nikon or Zeiss.

Those primes are probably pucka but the 17-55 is a peachy piece of kit and probably unless you pixel peep to the enth degree, you'll be really, really happy with the zoom

Not really a pixel peeper but I am a bit of a bokeh snob!

After having a quick google, I am begingn to convince myself I should just stick to my primes.

Hmm, perhaps rent a zoom lens out to see if you'd like one? That way you don't have to fork out the full cost of one if you don't like. I can't vouch for primes, as I've never owned a high end one but I do love the flexibility of zooms.
