Just been reported on C4 news.

Dixons have no plans to replace 35mm film cameras when stocks run out.

"Digital cameras out selling film ones 15 to 1 "

ok most of us are internet savvy and wouldnt buy from them anyway, or go back to film, but its the start of 35mm disappearing from the high street.

Dixons, from their humble beginnings as a photographic shop, have come a long way and as they rely almost completely on following mass consumer trends, this doesn't surprise me. Due to the tiny cut-throat margins they make on the gear they sell, they can't afford proper sales staff and still sell ridiculous "warranties" to make any money. This might actually be a small blessing in disguise for some of the better independent photographic retailers as there will still be many people who don't want to spend the extra money a digital camera will cost them. Unfortunately, without volume retailers like Dixons I think some of the manufacturers will find it difficult to make the import of a wide range of film cameras viable.
