I had a go at a DIY sling today. I hate the standard strap but before I spend £50-60 I want to know that the sling strap will be used. I used the strap from a Red Snapper Verso to make it so it's something many on here will be able to do and not have to spend a single penny unless they need a anchor for the camera, I used my RS QR for mine but I have seen people use 1/4" UNC eye bolts and a wing nut (looks a bit massive/ugly though).

Full instructions here:

Hopefully will get a chance to use it properly over the weekend.

Comments welcome.

It looks good for light gear , I'd just be very reluctant with any heavy gear as your not sure how strong the D ring on the QR plate is .

Yes, the QR D ring is probably the weak point. Though for light (cheap) gear it's probably plenty. If you have big heavy gear you've probably spent enough not to worry too much about £50 for a decent strap.

Though if you wanted you can get the BR fastenR-2 ring still for a tenner which looks like it would work (http://www.morrisphoto.co.uk/ProductDetails~productID~9020~categoryid~140.html)

This was more to see if I like the concept of a sling, or not. Initial thoughts are its 10x better so new year will probably see me buying a luma loop 2 at some point.

Why not just spend the £10 and buy the R strap fitting and stick it on what ever strap you want? still makeing a significant saveing over the original rstrap but you have the knowledge that your useing somthing designed to hold you camera in that position.
