Dodgy SDcard reader?

Hi,

I moved from shooting jpeg to shooting raw recently. Around the same time I started noticing corruption on downloaded photo's in Lightroom 4. The photo's appear fine in import preview but post import they exhibit all sorts of pink / yellow banding, occasionally I also see messages regarding an unexpected end of file.

I purchased a new sd card, guessing that maybe the card I was using was on its last legs. The new card is a lexar 8gb professional sourced from amazon, (not an amazon supplier, so it should be legit). However I am still getting the same issue.

I tried a usb connection directly to the camera last night. It was slower but every file came across perfectly.

Are some sdcard readers better than others? Are some outright rubbish?

(ah, background for you: 13" Mac book c2d, OSX Lion, LR4 Legit, sandisk and lexar pro SD cards, both class 10.
Current suspect - White Integral SDreader - two quid from amazon)

Okay - well you've basically deduced yourself that it might be the SD card reader, so next thing to do is to try and get your hands on another one, or test on another computer with an SD card reader/slot to confirm that it is the reader at fault.

And welcome to TP - and "sarf" in "sarf lahndan" doesn't have enough a's in "saaaaaaaaaarf" ;)

Very good point: Will load the nikon viewnx software on the the wifes dell and try accessing the card via the built in card reader.

Thanks for the advice and the welcome, gent and a scholar....
