i have a friend who has a 2 times converter, and has offered to allow me to try it before i buy 1......

but

would this canon fit, work with my canon 18-200usm efs ?

Depends on the make - Canon's own definitely won't - others might but the results are unlikely to be good. 2x converters work OK with the best lenses - typically fast telephotos - I wouldn't entertain the idea with a super zoom. You'll get soft results and probably lose AF.

Depends on the make, Canon converters don't usually fit the EFS lenses as they protrude slightly, I understand Kenko converters do not have this problem. I have Sigma 1.4X and 2X and they don't fit the EFS lenses I have.
