Strange how local authoritys are insistent that you cannot alter a listed building even if the changes meant it would get used and be habitable. However the alternative to relaxing these restrictions often means the building will decay to a point where it is uneconomical to do anything with. I appreciate that heritage sites should be preserved but some properties which have lower grade listed status can fall foul of these rules because it's easier for a developer to look elsewhere. My business premises is in one such building and 80% of it is uninhabited by business, commerce or tenant because of said same restrictions, it's just not worth anyone's trouble but rules are rules and so it lies unused. Shame really.
