Downsize/grade & Amalgamate

My main choice of smaller kit would be a Fuji X-T1 with a 10-24 and an 18-135. The X-T1 is a 1.5x crop (aka APS-C) body so the conversion to 35mm EFL is easy! Possibly a little over budget though. The X-Pro1 with the same lenses will do the job nearly as well but lacks some of the features that make the X-T1 so good!

I'm also an FF user but haven't been using that kit much since getting the X series bodies. In fact, I traded my D800 in against the X-Pro and some lenses and used the X-Pro more in a month than I had used the D800 in the year I owned it.
 
:plus1: for Fuji , I have found the XT1 to be a fantastic camera and the lenses available are of a very high standard IQ wise. Also, I find it's jacket pocketable with the 35mm f1.4 lens attached.

edit: Also, I dont have the patience for PP so I find the JPEGS out of the Fuji to be excellent.

One problem with the newer and smaller form systems such as the Fuji, Nex and MFT is that the prices can look high. There have been a few posts recently in which people have complained of high prices and initially the kit can look expensive compared to a conventional DSLR set up but once you start to take the quality of the kit and especially the lenses into account IMVHO it's easier to understand the pricing. Some of the lenses for these smaller systems seem to be very good and are getting outstanding reviews.
 
On the X-T1, the focus area square lights up green when it's achieved AF and there are a few manual focus aids available if you want to do it the hard way.

In short yes. WIth Fuji you get a square box wherever you set focus point, I always use center, which then turns green when in focus (as per what Nod said in post 45). When I had a Nikon D7000 that camera had a green dot to show in focus.
